Enhancing Safety In Your Car

Posted in: Car Loans |

Many people don’t intend on approaching dangerous situations when setting foot in a car. Cars can endanger the lives of the drivers and the people surrounding them, even if a driver is extremely careful when driving.

Through laws and regulations, there are many ways to increase safety. These include:

Secure every passenger
Everyone traveling in the car should have their safety belt securely and properly strapped on before starting the car.

Be Careful When Driving

Reduce the chance of an accident by taking control of your driving. Wheels spinning, skidding when cornering, driving too fast, not indicating or disobeying traffic laws are dangerous ñ to the driver and others.

Be Aware of Everything on the Road

Don’t read, talk on the cellphone, shave, apply makeup or do anything that takes attention off the road.

Strap Your Child in a Car Seat

Whether a full car seat or just a booster seat, make sure they are installed properly and children are securely strapped in before starting the car.

Plan for the unexpected

There are a few items of importance that should be included in every car’s safety kit: Spare tire and tools for a tire change, reflective gear, knife or seat belt cutter, and jumper cables. A fire extinguisher is good to keep inside the car too. When it is cold outside, it is important to have extra clothing items or blankets to keep you warm in case your car breaks down. Everyone should have a first aid kit in the car trunk too.

There are many rules of the road that can save lives whether they are well-known, or little hints or tips discovered along the way. For instance, consider these safety tips:

Secure all items

Expeditious stops and violent turns can endanger passengers if there are a mass amount of loose items present in a car. Loose items are the main cause of many accidents.

Leave window control to the driver

Eight American children were choked due to misuse of power windows in 2004. Accidents like this will happen if a child is exerting force on the window button as they are innocently looking out the window of a car. Parental locks are provided on the majority of cars. Controlling window buttons can prevent lost hands and fingers.

Never leave kids or keys, or both, in the car

Its common that children lock themselves in the car with the keys or wonder off if you are not around. If a child tampers with a car they can send your car into flowing traffic or crash it into items or people. It is extremely dangerous to leave keys in the ignition when children are in the car. Many children become locked in the trunk when unsupervised by a parent in a car. The chances of your car or items of importance being stolen is much higher when your keys are in the ignition.

Monitor the heat in your car
Hot weather does not keep people from leaving children and animals in cars. Cars get hotter than it is outside and can threaten the lives of children or animals left in the car. Likewise, cars do not maintain heat well, so in colder climes, the temperature inside a car will drop rapidly, causing hypothermia.

Every car is made from a lot of metal. Driving responsibly is the first step towards safety, but the driver needs to take every eventuality into consideration. Small things can make the difference, and we’d all rather be safe than sorry!
