How Can You Tell If That Used Car Is A Heap Of Junk

Posted in: Car Loans |

When it comes to used cars the Office of Fair Trading actually gets a lot of complaints from people. The majority of those complaining are doing so because they are concerned that the used car they have bought is a piece of junk and that they have been conned. Those who know what to look for can often spot the signs that a car is a banger but those of us who are less familiar with the workings of a car can be more easily fooled.

Here are some tips about what to look out for.

- Make sure you have a look under the car to see if you can spot any leaks. A puddle of some fluid could be due to a number of reasons but it is frequently the sign of a banger that has problems that will need to be fixed.

- Make sure that you take the time to examine the paintwork. If there are any parts of the car where the colour looks slightly different from the rest you can be almost sure that this is covering up something bad. You can be almost sure that there was an accident involving the car.

- Check all the rubber components in the car. Caps and belts are usually made from rubber. If these have not been well looked after it is unlikely that the rest of the car has received any better treatment.

- Cars that are not used or are left idle for long periods have been known to have more problems. You will need to check for these.

- Always be very suspicious of sellers who don't want you to take a test drive. You can not tell anything about a car really unless you have driven if so why should you buy it? And do not agree to compromise by letting the seller drive you around in the car as this is not enough you have to drive it yourself.

When you think it's time to look out for used cars, you are always better off trying to research your vehicles beforehand. Good research lets you find only the best models available. Once you've finished, you could find youself driving away from the dealers in a used jaguar or even a used lada.
